To Yeet or Not To Yeet!

Well folks, the 2025 Royal Rumble is in the books.  In what was a predictable win, Charlotte Flair outlasted the field of female superstars to become the first 2-time Women's Royal Rumble winner.  But that's not the topic that has been the talk of the IWC.  The final 6 men in the Men's Royal Rumble match, the most talent-filled Rumble in years, were CM Punk, Roman Reigns, John Cena, Seth Rollins, Logan Paul, and Jey Uso.  Four of them are legitimate main eventers and, I would hazard to say were the odds-on winners in Vegas.  However, when the dust settled, Jey Uso came out on top and earned himself a WrestleMania Main Event Championship match.

However, as of the next day, the YouTube clip of Jey's win had a disturbing 16,000 DISLIKES compared to 12,000 likes.  Just a few months ago, he was the IWC darling when he beat Bron Breakker for a short stint as Intercontinental Champion.  What happened?  Here's the issue, the IWC doesn't represent wrestling fans.  The trolls, err, people on X who complain about everything, believe that they know how WWE should be booked to THEIR liking.  Jey Uso is OVER!  He has had rappers do his entrance with him.  The dance, for lack of a better term, that he does with the live audience is electrifying and "Yeet" has made it into the lexicon of many wrestling fans.  Hell, the Lincoln Financial Field stadium for WrestleMania last years was SHAKING during his entrance.  Being in the upper deck myself, I thought the stadium was going to topple.  Many people who are part of the IWC watch a tremendous amount of wrestling, including indies.  Well, Jey Uso is a WWE-grown talent.  He's not a Bryan Danielson or a CM Punk.  He hasn't main evented a PLE before, unless he faced Roman Reigns or was in a tag team match.

Growing up, I always saw the Royal Rumble as a stepping up point for someone and always wanted to see someone unexpected to win.  Someone like The Barbarian of the Powers of Pain or Tito Santana or even Brian Knobbs of the Nasty Boys.  Every year, it becomes party of the storyline, and granted being a predetermined sports event, it makes sense.  But why does someone ALREADY OVER need to win every year.  Sure, Cody needed to win the last two years to Finish the Story, and it made sense.  Of course, we want to see Punk finally main event the Showcase of the Immortals, but he can do it without winning the Rumble.  Do we really need to see Seth winning again or Roman winning again.  It would have been too predictable for Cena to win it in his retirement year.  This year was the first year since 1993 that someone who wasn't already a main eventer won the match.  And the last time was Uso's cousin, Yokozuna.  Jey may not be the best worker in the ring, and his entrance clearly makes him winded even before the match, but the audience is behind him fully.  So, don't pay attention to the IWC because, just like the Internet Soap Community, they are the vocal minority of the fanbase.
